Shail Trophy Tournament at IIST concludes on a High Note (View All News)
Holistic development of students owes a great deal to extra-curricular activities including sports which play a vital role along with academics. Shail Group of Institutions (SGI) strongly believes in this tenet and therefore had instituted Shail Trophy, in the year 2012, which encourages school students to actively participate in football and basketball thereby excelling in these games.
The competition evokes huge response as could be gauged by intense competitive spirit displayed by16 boys and 16 girls teams from all over Indore which participated in the event last year.
Continuing with same tradition, SGI is hosted Shail Trophy 2013 which was inaugurated on 21st Oct 2013 at the sprawling campus of SGI. 20 football and 32 basket ball teams which also included 16 girl teams took part in the tournament this year.
Prominent schools like NDPS, Gujrati Samaj AMN, Advanced Academy, SICA, RRCAT School, Emerald Heights, St Arnold's, Spring Valley, Choithram North Campus etc. vied with each other to win the coveted Shail Trophy. The tournament was based on knockout format and was held at the sports complex of Indore Institute of Science & Technology (IIST) from 21st to 24th Oct 2013.
The football championship trophy was won by Advance Academy while NDPS Indore was declared runners up. Lavlish Silawat of Advance Academy was adjudged the best football player of the tournament.
Basketball (boys) tournament was won by Bhavan's Prominent while Emerald Heights was runner up. Emerald Heights won the basketball (girls) trophy while St. Arnold was runner up. Mayank Barde of Bhavan's Prominent School and Isha Chauhan of Emerald Heights School were declared the best boys and girls basketball player of the tournament.
Mr. Kripa Shankar Patel, Arjuna Award Winner, Dr. M. S. Murthy, Director School of Engineering and Dr. Shilpa Tripathy, Deputy Director awarded the trophies to the finalist and to the best player of the tournament. All of them emphasized the importance of sports in overall development of students and congratulated the teams for demonstrating that the said virtue actually remains true.
Untiring efforts of Ms. Nagma Sultana and Mr. Sukhdev Bamboria, Sports Officers of SGI ensured that the event comes to a smooth and successful closure.
